Sometimes things don't always happen the way you planned....

Sunday afternoons for Beacon Church at West Emonton Mall never really unfolded the way that we had envisioned. Sometimes we had lots of people gathered, sometimes we had none. Sometimes the crowd was especially youth-aged, sometimes the crowd was entirely over the age of 65. Each Sunday was different and there was little to no consistency, often including a lot of individuals from out of town.

That being said, every Sunday was super meaningful and included powerful reminders as to why Beacon Church was called to be a presence in The Mall.

However, it became quite obvious that Sunday afternoons were not working as a platform by which to build a church community and disciple the many young people that we were connecting with during the week, especially during the Thursday afternoon drop-in.

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting different results... so we made a change. Thursdays evenings instead of Sunday afternoons.

For the past month or so we have been gathering at 5:30pm on Thursdays and serving a simple meal before our service and discussion time. Already it has been a noticeable change! Students are returning and excited to connect, ask big questions and engage in the community.

As the summer is now in full swing, we expect some changes in the patterns of attendance, but we are confident that this was the right move and that God has placed us as a church in WEM to be a light, disciple the next generation, and build a strong community of faith.

Please pray for Beacon WEM!
