We gathered friends and neighbours for the first ever Beacon Strathcona Block Party on June 22. We met outside our building in the parking lot. The space was filled with smiles, balloons, and the smells of summer BBQ. Kids played ladder ball and bean bag toss and enjoyed watermelon and freezies. Leonard and Heyder manned the BBQ and served perfectly grilled burgers and hotdogs.

From suggesting the idea of a block party to clean up afterwards, this was a Beacon community effort. We are grateful to everyone who contributed by bringing the BBQ and games, grocery shopping, coming early to set up, barbecuing hot dogs and burgers, and cleaning up in the downpour that came at the end!

We enjoyed the time to deepen our connections with each other and the opportunity to meet some neighbors. Being a beacon in this neighbourhood means being present outside our church walls and inviting others to participate with us in community.
